The Tapestry of the South. Welcome to the home of Mindanao feature stories. Beyond the daily headlines, Mindanao Gold Star Daily celebrates the diverse narratives that define our island’s identity. In 2026, we explore the "Colors of Mindanao"—from the ancestral wisdom of our indigenous Lumad communities and the vibrant Islamic heritage of Western Mindanao to the world-class surf breaks of Siargao. Our features dive deep into Mindanaoan cuisine, sustainable eco-tourism, and the human interest stories of local innovators shaping the "trillion-peso" regional economy. This is where we tell the story of who we are: fearless, factual, and deeply rooted in the heart of the southern Philippines.

Nevertheless, people coming forward to us is already a huge step. We continue to raise awareness around mental health and promote de-stigmatization,” shared Dr. Babay Malawani of the mental health cases referred to them in Malabang town, Lanao del Sur.

Rene Barrientos remembers memorable fight with Flash Elorde

“We already buried the hatchet as I always visited bai (Elorde) in Manila at the time when he was seriously ill with lung cancer. When he was still in good shape, he made an effort to come here to Cagayan de Oro for a week-long vacation. They (Elordes) are my extended family in Manila. I don’t know I have no vices then, but after forging intimate relations with bai I’ve also learned to smoke cigarettes. Maybe I’m quite sentimental for old time’s sake," Barrientos shared.
