CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Looking for fresh fruits, vegetables, garden plants, and locally made products?
Residents can now shop directly from farmers and fisherfolk as the city's annual Fiesta sa Kaumahan: Agro Fair and Garden Show 2026 officially opened as part of the month-long Higalaay Festival.
The agro fair brings together farmers, fisherfolk, and agripreneurs from across Cagayan de Oro, giving them a venue to showcase and sell fresh produce while connecting consumers with locally grown food.
This year's opening also coincided with the observance of Farmworker Appreciation Day, recognizing the vital role of the city's agricultural workers in ensuring food reaches local tables.
Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy paid tribute to the dedication of farmers and fisherfolk, highlighting their contribution to the city's food security and economy.
City Agriculturist Engr. Bernie A. Daba Jr. said the Fiesta sa Kaumahan is more than a festival attraction—it is an opportunity to thank God for a bountiful harvest while recognizing the hard work of the city's agri-fishery associations in strengthening the agriculture sector.
Meanwhile, City Councilor Juancho Pascual, chair of the Committee on Agriculture, assured farmers and fisherfolk of the city's continued support in expanding market opportunities and strengthening linkages for locally produced goods.
Vice Mayor Jocelyn "Bebot" Rodriguez, members of the City Council, and representatives from national government agencies also attended the opening ceremonies.
