TALISAYAN, Misamis Oriental — Business owners are heavily dependent on electricity, so what can a business do when there are frequent brownouts? That's the question posed by Mayor Ciriaco Talines of Talisayan.
Mayor Talines said the Misamis Oriental II Rural Electric Service Cooperative (Moresco II) must upgrade its service to find a real solution to the power outages.
Talisayan and other towns in eastern Misamis Oriental, including Gingoog City, have been experiencing frequent scheduled and unscheduled brownouts, often two or three times a week.
The outages have adversely affected residents and businesses in the town.
First District Rep. Jennifer ‘Karen’ Lagbas of Misamis Oriental addressed the issue in a recent Facebook post, saying the Moresco II problem was discussed during a meeting of the House Committee on Energy.
Lagbas said that during the meeting, they highlighted the challenges faced by electric cooperatives, including Moresco II, which she believes should receive special attention, especially for upgrading their distribution lines.
The Department of Energy and National Electrification Administration said loan facilities will be available by the end of the year to help cooperatives find sustainable ways to strengthen and modernize their systems.
