BUTUAN City--Government troops from the 30th Infantry Battalion overran a camp of the New People’s Army (NPA) following an encounter in Barangay Tinago, Malimono, Surigao del Norte on Monday.
Civil Military Operations officer Lt. Ryan Layug of the 401st Infantry Battalion said soldiers occupied the rebel camp after 10-minute firefight with guerrillas.
Layug said the camp had 15 bunkers and could accommodate 60 people.
Layug said the rebels abandoned the camp where soldiers found 34 crude bombs, a gallon of antiseptic, and rain boots.
Police and military set up checkpoints in adjacent areas while others conducted hot pursuit operations and alerted their units to check hospitals for rebels who were wounded in the firefight.
