“WUTHERING Heights” is dark, gloomy, cloudy, rainy, stormy. But I didn’t know that before watching the movie since I’d rather read Ayn Rand than Emily Brontë.
Rand’s “The Fountainhead” has been my favorite book, much like Sting’s “If I Ever Lose My Faith In You” is my fave song, seventeen is my fave number, Mamou is my fave resto in Pinas, Roadhouse and Totsy’s are my fave restos in Cagayan de Oro, Nike is my fave gym sneakers, and Dove Pink is my fave bath soap.
Surely you also have your favorites. To each their own.
I had no idea how “Wuthering Heights” would end. As for its love story, the darkness failed to make that story shine, and I didn’t see any chemistry between its lead stars Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie. There were touching scenes, though, which made me share them on Facebook.
Movies have been taking advantage of social media as a tool for promotions and marketing strategies.
“Wuthering Heights,” for one, used it to convince the viewing public there’s some romance between Elordi and Robbie. And all the while I thought that’s only possible for Pinoy showbiz loveteams.
If the movie has been raking it in, that’s with much gratitude to social media. If it has not, that proves even Elordi’s piercing stare at Robbie is not convincing enough.
Still, the movie’s marketing strategies worked for me. I even dared to travel to CDO’s downtown area to watch it.
Traveling from uptown to downtown and vice versa is now one of the Cagayanon’s pet peeves as it reveals the city’s ills: traffic, floods, garbage, road repairs, unrepaired roads. I write my columns during those travels to avoid seeing what’s happening outside.
Traffic is supposed to be the prize of progress, according to a former city councilor. I wonder if he has now included floods, garbage, road repairs, and unrepaired roads in that equation.
For me, progress is when I can finally see that there’s chemistry between Elordi and Robbie, er, when I won’t dread going to the downtown area.
At the gym, progress is measured by the Evolt 360 which measures body fat percentage, lean muscle mass, visceral fat, body weight, bio-age, etc. In other words, it’s the clearest reveal on whether I’m able to stick with the carnivore diet or not. It’s the gym’s Commission on Audit.
I have a smart weighing scale at home whose results may inspire me to use the Evolt for confirmation. My last Evolt scan was on Dec. 18, 2025, which means the smart weighing scale at home has not had favorable results thereafter. Hush.
Yes, blame it on Christmas, New Year’s Eve, January birthdays, Valentine’s Day, and Chinese New Year, which were also the reasons behind my delayed dive into the low-carb diet in 2021 and 2022. And now, the transition is from keto to carnivore. Wish me luck.
I got a feeling that the darkness I saw in “Wuthering Heights” was mainly caused by my carb-loading, which could lead to the blues.
