CONTRACTOR of the supposed “world-class” market at barangay Palao this city has asked for another extension in the completion of the project.
Virginia Junsan, manager of the Economic Enterprise Development and Management Office yesterday told reporters here that BM Marketing is seeking yet another extension of 120 calendar days.
This is, after the expiration of its earlier date of completion of November 7, this year. The date was its latest schedule of date of completion.
To note, several extensions have already been asked by the contractor under the previous administration as this is a project of said administration under then city mayor Celso G. Regencia.
The last extension which they told the new administration under mayor Frederick Siao was Nov. 7 even as a consultant hired by the past administration estimated it to be July of this year resulting in some altercation between the two parties.
This was reported by Roy Openiano, a member of the transition team.
Junsan said this LGU now under Siao is dismayed as market vendors in the temporary market at the terminal at Tambo, this city is getting restless.
Junsan added that the present administration is studying what to do with this situation, as among other things, there are “only a few people working” on the said market even as there are only a few pieces of equipment too.
The reason being made by the contractor then was “because of the pandemic” although that reason is not being invoked by BM Marketing now.
To recall, the project was started on February 25, 2020, and was first scheduled to be finished by December 31, 2021.
