ILIGAN City ― The lawyer in the opposing camp was emphatic. “Objection! Wrong grammar,” he said.
The judge agreed and lawyer two had to rephrase his question on the person upon the stand. “Objection! Wrong grammar.” Lawyer two had to rephrase his questions again. Not once, not twice, but several times. Until the words and the grammar became correct.
After the hearing on that day, Lawyer two saw Lawyer own waiting for a public vehicle having a hard time for it was raining. Lawyer two who was comfortably driving in his Mercedes shouted to the other: “Panyero, sakyi imong grammar!”
Of course, this is just a lawyer joke enjoyed by lawyers themselves. And maybe by somebody who has taken three units of law subjects like me, hahaha.
And I remember such a kind of lawyer joke now. Because some words now these pandemic days matter very much, Like “mandatory vaccines” which only mean
“prioritize.” Per the statement of city legal officer Caocao Badelles. Although some police officers mean it as “mandatory,” per words in an Executive Order signed by mayor Celso G Regencia.
But lawyers, professors, concerned citizens, and others “prefer” the “words” embodied in Republic Act 11525 saying among other things that: Sec 2... xxx the State xxx c, Recognize the experimental nature of Covid 19 vaccines available in the market and compensate any adverse effects (SAEs) arising from the use of Covid 19 vaccine by people inoculated through the Covid 19 Vaccination Program. “And in another Section 12” Covid -19 Vaccine Card, xxx “Provided further,” That the vaccine cards shall not be considered a mandatory requirement for educational, employment and other similar government transaction purposes.
One radio anchor summarized the government’s policy which he says: “A one size fits all policy.” Which of course refers to vaccines. And more vaccines. For it is “the only way” out of this thing called Covid.
And a group here is “allergic” to the “waiver” word. Which the vaccinee has to sign before getting the jab.
Now, I tell you this story of a government employee, along with her co employee went to barangay Sta. Fe recently to do some convincing about this Covid vaccine thing, They saw a fisherman cleaning his boat and they did their convincing “words.”
And you know what? They were the ones that got convinced. By the fisherman’s action: A drawn long-bladed weapon ready for them!
Naturally, they had to run for dear lives.
