A large power outage occurred yesterday afternoon, September 10, affecting parts of Misamis Oriental and Gingoog City in Northern Mindanao, as well as Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Butuan City, Bayugan City and Surigao City in the Caraga region.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said on its Facebook account that adverse weather conditions caused the outage of the Jasaan-Nasipit-Butuan 138-kilovolt transmission line.
The line supplies power to several electric cooperatives: Moresco II, Surneco, Aneco, and Aselco.
NGCP Communications and Public Affairs Officer Kristoffer Abellanosa said power was quickly restored because the transmission line was activated under the System Integrity Protection Scheme (Sip).
Abellanosa said the NGCP installed the SIPS to protect the grid during abnormal or emergency conditions.
Power was restored to the affected areas at various times, beginning with Aneco, which serves Agusan del Norte and Butuan City, at 3:38 p.m.
Next, Moresco II, which covers parts of Misamis Oriental, had power restored at 3:40 p.m. At 3:44 p.m., power returned to Aselco’s service area in part of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. Surneco, which serves Surigao del Norte and Surigao City, as well as the municipalities of Gigaquit, Mainit, Malimono, and Placer, had its power restored at 3:51 p.m.
Finally, power was fully restored at 3:54 p.m. to the rest of Aselco’s service area, which includes the municipalities of Prosperidad, San Luis, Talacogon, La Paz, and Loreto in Agusan del Sur, and Bayugan City.
