EMOTIONS ran high at the Liceo de Cagayan University gymnasium yesterday, November 26, as members of Fraternitas Scintilla Legis gathered for a prayer rally to demand justice.
The assembly renewed the call for accountability for their “slain brother,” Nyruh Kyle Antatico. Shot dead this past October in Patag, Cagayan de Oro City, his killing has sparked outrage throughout the fraternity and the wider community.
Hundreds of members attended the gathering clad in black shirts. They pinned white ribbons to their chests — symbols of grief, unity, and the fraternity’s unwavering demand for answers.
Lawyer Jairo Ladera, chairman of the Scintilla Board of Trustees, declared that their commitment would not waver until justice is served.
Ladera noted that while authorities have issued a subpoena to a person of interest, the fraternity intends to keep pressing forward. He contrasted the uncertainty of the investigation’s early days with a renewed sense of hope, crediting the police for taking concrete steps, including providing protection for Antatico’s family.
“Ga plano gyud ang grupo nga series of event gyud mi para dili malimtan nga madumduman gyud nga kinahanglan gyud nga makuha ang hustisya,” Ladera said.
Fraternity leaders said Antatico was allegedly killed after publicly revealing what he claimed were irregularities within the National Irrigation Administration via social media. Highlighting the dangers faced by whistleblowers, Ladera called on the government to safeguard individuals who expose corruption.
“Padayon pud unta atong gobyerno nga mawala ang korapsyon, kung naa man gani na, dili unta nila pasagdan ang mga naningog kay lisod na kaayo ang kalibutan karon,” he added.
