ILIGAN City ― The chairs of the barangays here have reacted to the city government’s decision to change the purok presidents in every barangay who are found to be “inactive.”
Caesarve Siacor, president of the Association of Barangay Council in a statement to reporters yesterday, said that in their ABC meeting this week they have decided to request city mayor Celso G Regencia to “reconsider” the decision by the city to change the purok presidents in every barangay who are “inactive” and the city will be the one to do this.
It was learned that such a move by the city is embodied in Executive Order No. 6, Series of 2022.
The barangay officials are the ones who are in a position to know who are “active” and who are not in their areas. So why to let somebody who isn’t familiar with the barangay do the appointing, Siacor argued.
It was also learned that somebody from Barangay Dalipuga had been appointed by the city as “Federated Purok President” in the person of Carl Balmadrid.
“What does a person from Dalipuga know about Tomas Cabili? It isn’t practical Siacor said. The said person will then do the recommendations on who to change in the purok level.
He added too that after most of the chairs have signed they will submit it to the mayor early next week even as they have learned that the mayor is not in the city this week.
It was noted too that there is no law regarding purok presidents as they came about because of initiatives from the Department of Education who found them necessary in the pursuit of facilitating education for the learners.
Some people though have aired suspicions via radio stations and in social media that “politics” have something to do with the city’s move.
