Iligan City — Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz yesterday said the leave of Mayor Celso Regencia is up until Jan. 15, next year, even as he added that the mayor is “not suspended.”
“There’s nothing seriously wrong with him,” Vera Cruz added, even as he admitted that Regen-cia’s blood sugar shoots up and is also suffering from vertigo.
But the mayor is “not avoiding people,” he said, adding that on Monday, he attended the wedding of his daughter.
“He also called a meeting with the barangay chairpersons, even if he is officially on leave,” Vera Cruz said.
Earlier, the Department of Interior and Local Government City Director Edward Bagwani told reporters that he himself has personal knowledge on the matter as he was able to see the leave application of Regencia since things like these have to be approved by DILG Secretary Eduardo Año.
He did not say, however, as to the particular date the mayor’s leave would ends. He added that the is leave of absence is “per doctor’s advice.”
