THE mayor of Talisayan plans to meet with the project manager of a stalled nearly P50 million zipline, which was intended to boost tourism in the area.
Mayor Ceriaco Talines said today, September 11, that the project, which began in February 2024, was supposed to be completed in February of this year.
“Tsada gyud unta na nga project kay kani atong lungsod kinahanglan gyud tag mga atraksyon para madani ang mga turista,” Talines said.
He said he did not have knowledge of the project’s status since it was started by the previous administration.
“I intend to call the attention of the project manager to discuss ana nga project,” Talines said.
The zipline is an estimated two kilometers long, connecting to Sipaka Heights.
However, Talines revealed that the construction is in a protected area, according to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
“Igo raman gud ta ani nagsunod, wala gyud ni proper turn-over, walay proper infomation so maong mo verify sa ta,” the mayor said.
He added that the two-kilometer zipline might be too long to be considered “world-class,” as the ideal length is only one kilometer.
Jun Abacahin, a Talisayan resident, expressed his disappointment with the project’s stoppage.
“Ang makatubag ana kato rang mga opisyal, madismaya ta kay dako kaayo ang budget wa nahuman, na alisdan nalang sa laing administrasyon,” Abacahin said.
