TWO municipalities in Misamis Oriental, Balingasag and Lagonlong, suspended classes today, September 1, after being severely affected by flooding from a low-pressure area that hit the region over the weekend.

Both public and private schools in the two municipalities were closed by order of their respective local chief executives.

In Balingasag, the Municipal Information Office announced the suspension, stating that Mayor Alexis Quiña made the decision due to the severe flooding the municipality experienced.

Flooding was reported to have entered schools, including Dumarait National High School, leaving classrooms wet.

In Lagonlong, Mayor Franz Angelo Capistrano issued Executive Order No. 24, series of 2025, suspending all classes within the municipality’s jurisdiction. The order cited “continuing adverse weather conditions and flooding in affected barangays” as the reason for the suspension.
