THIS paper recently said traffic woes persist along Capistrano street and the JR Borja Bridge even during non-peak hours. This means that area should pose a serious challenge to the traffic managers of the City, yet they seem to have only one solution. A temporary solution.
Every now and then several traffic aides are fielded at every end of the bridge and convert the bridge, Vamenta boulevard, and Max Suniel Street into zipper lanes, commonly known as burak. The traffic managers seem to be helplessly resorting only to that scheme they call burak instead of coming up with some long term solutions.
The news item mentions that there were suggestions on how to ease up vehicular traffic in that area, one of which to make the bridge at Vamenta boulevard in Carmen a "right turn only" intersection.
This is a sound suggestion but I wonder why the traffic managers are not listening to inputs from the public. It is as if the traffic managers have the monopoly of finding solutions to that never ending traffic problem. Or are they too proud to listen to the layman?
If we dissect that suggestion, it will surely decongest the pile of vehicles along JR Borja street all the way up to the Corrales Avenue intersection. Why? Because vehicles on the bridge will freely and continuously unload themselves by simply turning right. Simple solution? Ask the RTA managers and consultants.
If this becomes the rule, then motorists from the eastern part of the city who want to go to the Carmen market can simply use Ysalina bridge because the JRBorja-Vamenta is a no-left-turn junction. A little sacrifice by a few to the benefit of many others.
Does RTA and it's managers ang consultants know this? It seems not. Then why are they still clinging on to their jobs? I heard that the Mayor has reshuffled various departments heads of city hall.
If the reason for the transfers is incompetence, the Mayor need not look far!
