ILIGAN City ― “Man (cannot) live by bread alone.”
This was the question asked by a teacher to her class. Of which a learner promptly raised a hand and then answered: “Ma’am, it means man also needs butter!”
The learner was of course right. And wrong at the same time. Because the statement begs a deeper meaning.
Now, based on that quote we could say too that man does not die by Covid alone! He could also die of TB, cancer, cardiac arrest, dengue, typhoid fever, and other sicknesses. And maybe even of overwork!
But relative to this latter matter, I heard somebody say: “Overwork never killed somebody who supervised it!”
Ah, well… There are several kinds of “over.” As in overwhelmed, overthinking, overboard, all kinds of “over.”'
And this isn’t unlike what City Health Officer Dr. Belinda Lim is thinking, and she isn’t overthinking, mind you. For it seems she knows what she’s talking about.
She says that in the process of attending to this game, no not game but one could also say that, concerns about other services like prenatal, regular vaccinations, and health care services other than Covid had been left out. Because all those assigned to those services are utilized for Covid-19 services especially vaccinations.
She is therefore requesting this LGU schedules vaccination three times a week, say Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Maybe she understands that man does not die of Covid alone? And may I share this quote re Omicron I heard from a friend …Even if I think this isn’t very original: “The anticipation of Omicron is worse than Omicron itself.”
