ILIGAN City ― “Roy Mabasa, brother of slain radio commentator Percy Lapid and lawyers in a case conference at the Commission on Human Rights Conference hall, Oct. 25.”
This was among the latest developments of the said case on the matter.
“This has become a telenovela,” my friend Fely said as we faced each other echoing what has been said on air by several commentators about the matter.
We were having some snacks and then some diner somewhere in the Poblacion barangay of this city.
“Of course,” I agreed and added that she isn’t ‘original’ for I have heard those lines repeated in the air lanes. And in social media, of course.
“Add to that these words like middleman, first middle man, Bilibid, first autopsy, second autopsy, persons of interest as in 160 of them, or over 100, sacking of Bantag, the Bilibid boss, supposed involvement of high ranking people in the government, blah blah blah, and make some analysis by connecting the dots and you really get rich materials for some telenovela, as some people say.”
“Of course.” It was my friend’s turn to say those words and we laughed as if it was just a matter to be laughed at!
“And here in our midst, there’s another happening, of the telenovela kind too,” I said and added, which is the bombing of the NGCP tower last week at San Isidro barangay, at Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte. “Which per report of the army, by Brig. Gen. Rey Alemania, had the perpetrator killed. Per their analysis, this was not the handiwork of a suicide bomber. Which they say is perpetrated by the Dawliya Islamiya.”
And I further related that per reports San Isidro is five or six kilometers from some towns there in Lanao Norte like Munai, meaning that the people responsible for this is just somewhere near. Which has rendered some hours of darkness in the Lanao provinces, and even in the Zamboanga peninsula. We were just fortunate that we here in Iligan or Cagayan de Oro and nearby were not affected by those electrical disconnections brought about by such happening.
“There’s that 6.7 magnitudes that struck in Abra several nights ago.'”
My friend chimed in.
”Yet, President BBM said that our economy is good. It’s just the other countries that are problematic and in the process, we are affected.”
“So what can you say through all these? That they're good materials for telenovelas?”
“No,” my friend said. “I think I would agree with somebody who said that we will just add those to Netflix!”
For a while, we laughed but then stopped short. Because these things are no laughing matter indeed.
