ILIGAN City ― The beginning of 2022 found us ready to be "unbanged" by Covid-19 that had "banged" us for 2 years, from 2020 to 2021. So, I don't mean then the hair on the foreheads of people. This is most especially seen in young people of South Korea, both men, and women and they look good in this style.

And we love to see them on screen.

I'm talking of another "bang''. Like that one that Russia did on Ukraine. So, little did we know that this bang there-- no, not one "bang" but, multiple "bangs" would reverberate throughout the world in February hitting many pockets, including ours. To the point of making various holes in the pockets, including ours, what with the very high cost of gasoline and other petroleum products.

There is even a joke that when a young man asked his girlfriend where he would want to take her during an important date she answered that it should be to a "special place". The man interpreted this as someplace "very expensive." So he took her to a gasoline station!

Anyway, there were these election campaigns that were loved by most of us who are election lovers. So, there were campaign rallies here, and there, and elsewhere in the country. For the show must go on. Never mind the "bangs" or the prospective "bangs" that come with them.

When the elections came in May, many were "banged" with the sudden realization that there is no forever when it comes to elective political positions that you are holding. Or that if you're "banged". I mean your family is "banged" out of some very high elective position even kicking you out of the country. you can't: "bang" again to that position. PBBM has proven that.

In this connection, may I give some narrative relating to PBBM? At the city public plaza here, I was talking with Mike, my nerdy friend, about what Tatay Digs had then said about PBBM (although he did not specifically mention his name). "He's weak. A shabu user." I related to Mike.

He said I was wrong. Tatay Digs did not say, "shabu," but "cocaine!" Hahaha, but I laughed but suddenly stopped for this is no laughing matter. Whether we like it or not, he's now the President.

When July came, the MGSD just marked it silently, its 33rd anniversary. Anyway, we had that 30th-anniversary party at CDO with such fanfare and left us with some memory that could last forever if we chose to.

And the Iligan City fiesta and tourism month in September came with some "bangs", good "bangs" I should say. What with new leadership under city mayor Frederick Siao. With 9 years under city mayor Celso G. Regencia, we were just kind of "bored" then. Especially with their handling of the pandemic.

And the city and the rest of the world came alive, even if there was still Covid. The news about the pandemic did not bang the people any more than the way it did when it began two years ago.

Sometime during the year though, Hong Kong was affected very much by this Covid thing. So China embarked on a "Zero Covid" policy. Which led to a surge. not unlike the surge in the rest of the countries of the world when it first began. Critics described it as "Leninistic" whatever that means. So, that country is back to square one. So, Covid again hit China with a "bang," an unprecedented one, if reports are to be believed. Making their bid for the world's number one economic power delayed.

Although it is said that some realization 101 of their kind would see the country opening up again, come January 8 of next year.

But what really came banging us like some thieves in the night were the waters surging at Oroquieta city, or Gingoog city and many parts of the country, during the Christmas days. These are some of the "bangs' we felt in 2022. : "Bangs" you see mean something like "impact." And if you add another letter, it would be "impact3" there, I think you can supply the right letter!

Yet, I would like to think that we can't do otherwise but get accustomed to these "bangs" or "bangings" or: bangers or prepare for them. What else can we do?
