This philosophy guides the actions of a particular group, according to Cesarve Siacor, the incumbent president of the Association of Barangay Council in this city. He quoted the late councilor, Atty. Alfredo Busico, to convey the group's approach.
Siacor explained that the group chose to elect a newly minted barangay chair, Clint Catubig, following this principle.
It is worth noting that the group of barangay captains Siacor is referring to insisted on electing the ABC President and other officers, despite facing challenges. They failed to establish the committees by December 1 to facilitate the elections scheduled for December 15. Additionally, the President of the National League of Barangay Council, Eden Chua Pineda, declared these elections "null and void."
Their lawyer, Dexter Rey Sumaoy, argued that they had the quorum and were providing the National League with the necessary documentation of their proceedings. This emphasis on documentation is commendable, indicating a commitment to proper procedures.
The group also expressed their intention to abide by the decision of the National League on the matter, even if it contradicts the President's stance.
While it is uncertain whether the group's action in electing Clint Catubig as the "new" ABC President should be praised or condemned, the latter term seems too harsh, especially during the Christmas season.
One might consider this action as reflective of our cultural inclination to be "hard-headed," challenging established rules if possible.
