GINGOOG City Councilor Jacob Johnny Motoomull is pushing for a resolution to give a 50 percent discount on the outstanding tax payments of all public market vendors in the city.
In a phone interview yesterday, Motoomull said the tax relief would apply to market vendors who have not paid their tax obligation since the previous administration of former Mayor Marie Guingona.
“Ang ilang (market vendors) rason sa paghangyo (kay) wala pa sila makabawi sa ilang alkanse tungod sa sunod-sunod nga kalamidad ug sa nasinating pandemya,” he said.
However, Councilor Antonio Jesus Villahermosa said it is unfair to extend the tax relief only to vendors inside the public markets of the city.
“If the market vendors (will be) given that discount, how about others? Nganong taga sulod ra man sa merkado hatagan ug pabor? Kung hatagan man ugaling ug pabor ang taga merkado hatagan nalang ang tanan,” Villarhermosa asked.
For his part, Councilor Robert de Lara said he is in favor of the proposed tax relief but the resolution should be referred to the city’s legal office first.
“Kung moingon ang atong legal officer nga pwede, so, atong ipa pasar ang resolusyon,” de Lara said.
