ILIGAN City ― After the recent turnover of the newly completed steel hanging bridge in Barangay Tambacan by the Department of Public Works and Highways – Lanao del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office (DPWH-LDN2 DEO), local residents and visitors are lining up to have their selfies and groufies taken at the new bridge especially in the evening.
The newly constructed bridge has been lined with LED strip lights and LED floodlights along with its suspension cables that transformed the steel bridge into a nightly local attraction.
“With the lighting of this (Tambacan) bridge, we want to deliver the message of hope not only to the people of Tambacan but to all the good people of Iligan City. We want to show that there is light at the end of every dark tunnel and that one day this pandemic will finally come to an end,” said District Engineer Alykhan Ali.
The new pedestrian steel bridge replaced the run-down wooden hanging bridge which was constructed in the early 1970s.
“We are thankful to DPWH and Congressman (Frederick) Siao for giving us this project. Finally, we will no longer worry about the safety of our residents particularly the young students,” Tambacan chairman Jimmy Sale said.
The lighting project was primarily implemented to deter crimes at the hanging bridge especially since there is still a significant volume of pedestrians even at nighttime.
With the opening of the steel hanging bridge, Tambacan residents now have shorter travel time between their homes and their workplace, or business shop. (DPWH-PIO)
