DIGOS City ― Elements of Tagum City police in Davao del Norte are looking into the possibility of a personal grudge as the motive behind the killing of a 22-year-old man in Visayan Village at about 8:20 pm on Saturday.
Lt. Colonel Jeffrey Latayada, Tagum City's acting police chief in a text message on May 30 said the victim received death threats prior to the incident that took place at Purok Talisay-1 in Visayan village on the evening of May 27.
Carl Gasal was having a drinking spree with two other individuals outside his residence in Visayan Village when a lone gunman suddenly appeared and fired a handgun multiple times hitting the victim in different parts of the body, the police report said.
Gasal was rushed to the nearest hospital in Tagum City hoping to revive him, but the attending physician pronounced him dead on arrival.
Forensic field unit personnel found six cartridges of .45 caliber ammunition at the crime scene which will be subjected to ballistic examination to determine if the gun that fired the bullets is registered or used in other previous crimes.
Latayada said they are gathering more evidence to secure an arrest warrant against the person of interest which apparently an acquaintance of Gasal.
The police chief urged residents of the city to report any suspicious personalities in their respective villages so that the authorities could take immediate action in thwarting the possible commission of any criminal acts against any individuals.
