“I love you, dad.”
This was the heartfelt declaration of re-elected 1st District Representative Lordan Suan as he took his oath of office on June 23 before Besigan Barangay Chairman Samuel Minister.
Joining the ceremony were re-elected 2nd District Misamis Oriental Representative Yevgeny Vincente Emano, Padayon Pilipino barangay chairpersons, City Councilors Imee Rose Moreno and Yevonna Yacine Yvy Emano, as well as Suan’s brother, Agapito Suan, and their father, Jun Suan.
In his speech, Emano commended Suan, noting that he was fortunate to be raised by a principled father.
“Sa pagbutho sa pagkatawo sa atong Kongresista (Suan) aduna nay igo nga bahandi nga nagsabak sa ilang mga kamot, apan ang nakanindot kay naka angkon silag ginikanan kansang gitudluan sila pagpuyo sa matarong, sa pagpuyo sa ka-lindong, sa pagpuyo sa pagpangalagad sa isig ka tawo,” Emano said.
Suan expressed gratitude to Barangay Besigan, the farthest hinterland barangay of Cagayan de Oro, saying he intentionally chose the area to highlight that distance is not a barrier to public service.
“Ang tinuod nga lider, mutungas, mulatas, musulod sa kabukiran,” Suan said.
He also pledged to prioritize funding for the installation of street lights in Besigan to improve safety for its residents.
Reflecting on his father’s unwavering support, Suan shared that it has never wavered through the years.
When asked whether his father plans to run for barangay chairman in Carmen in the upcoming December elections, Suan said there are no such plans.
“Ga support gyud na sya sa akoa, suod mi sa akong amahan, ganahan kaayo na sya mo-support ug ganahan kaayo ko ana,” he said.
