SOME of them are complaining of not receiving what’s due them, while some others are soliciting advice on how to address their prevailing labor problems.
These issues that hounded the employees of the Pelaez Sports Center have surfaced anew as Cagayan de Oro’s main sporting hub for physical fitness and similar activities had been opened recently to the public after the government’s lowering of the Covid alert to Level 2 in Northern Mindanao.
“Dako-dako pa akong dawatonon nga mora’g tabla na ang pa-ingnan. Akong mga kauban wala sa’y kaisog nga moduol sa labor niining among sitwasyon,” one female worker, who requested anonymity, told Gold Star Daily.
“We are regular employees apan 13 days lang sa one month among makuha nga sweldo,” she shared.
The situation, however, could only worsen as the Palaro Sports Center employees feel that they’re being abandoned by the Provincial Capitol of Misamis Oriental and the regional office of the Department of Education that supposedly jointly hold control of the sports facilities’ operation.
“(Skeleton) na lang kami dire. Kon unsay income mao na lang ayom ayomon lisod sab kon magtanga walay kaonon among pamilya,” another worker said.
One sports group, who did not want to be identified, told Gold Star Daily that they initiated something to alleviate the poor workers’ condition.
“Kay makatabang man ang sports center sa among kalihokan, nag amot-amot na lang kami nga maka-produce og pila ka sakong bugas apil na cash para matabang pud sa ila,” the group’s leader said.
Gold Star Daily tried to reach out to the Capitol for comments and got some words from Provincial Board member and sportsman Gerardo ‘Boboy’ Sabal III.
“Sa akong nahibaw-an, for the moment (skeleton) lang sa ang gipa trabaho mintras dili pa daghan ang gagamit sa sports center kay ang majority sa sweldo sa staff diha man gasalig sa kita sa gate. Hopefully, modaghan na ang mogamit balik na sa full operation pareha (sa) before sa Covid,” Sabal said.
