ILIGAN City ― The duly elected mayor of this city will hold office at Buhanginan Hills, at one of the buildings in the compound.

Outgoing Rep. Frederick Siao, who will assume as mayor after he takes oath on June 30 told reporters yesterday that like most of the past city mayors, he will also hold office there.

He added that the office of the chief executive of this city “must be easily accessible to the people he is serving,” obviously taking a dig at outgoing city Mayor Celso Regencia who had held office across the house of former congressman Vicente Belmonte, Jr, whom he had defeated for the post of congressman last elections even as the latter too had caused his imprisonment as he had been a suspect in the former congressman’s ambush in 2014, Dec. 11 and caused him legal struggles.

Siao said that his own oath-taking and the rest of the team with him who had won will be administered mostly by barangay chairs from the hinterlands. And this will be at the city public plaza.

This will be a “consultative” administration, he said, even as we are going to address all these problems and not “blame the failure of the previous administration” obviously taking a dig again at the outgoing Regencia administration.

Among the leading problems of the city is the “water problem” and he said that sometime this July, there will be a “water summit” to be facilitated by the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology.

The said school, to note, is one of the best institutions in the country, and in the past administration referring again to this outgoing administration, in his earlier pronouncements, this has not been recognized or made use of.

As for the job order and casuals, he said some of them will be retained.

“If they had been doing their jobs properly,” he said even as he said there will be changes in various departments. Several department heads had resigned, it was learned.

But that particular place which had been occupied by many of the past mayors which are on the second floor of one of the buildings there badly needed repairs.

So in the meantime, he added, he will temporarily hold office near the Sangguniang Panlungsod session hall which is in another building.

Buhanginan Hill, to note is the site of various city government offices and including the city mayor’s office.
