ILIGAN City ― Mining operations here in Rogongon have not begun yet.
This was the gist of the statement of Zaide Serino, to reporters early this week in the wake of reports that a mining company has begun its operations in said area.
Serino, to note is a kagawad of said barangay, a hinterland barangay with a population of over 7,000 inhabitants and with an elevation of over a thousand feet above sea level Serino added that this week, officials of said barangay will meet to take up said matter.
Reports on air and in social media are swarming with comments and postings on the said matter with thousands of hectares “devoted” to such operations with gold and copper as the targets of such extractions.
However, Mayor Frederick Siao, early this week told reporters, that his stand on the matter is “no to mining policy” adding that there has been no company to date who has come over to his office to talk about establishing mining operations.
Randy Pugoy, chair of said barangay could not be reached for his comments on said matter even as Rep. Celso G. Regencia, former mayor of the city could not be reached for comments on the matter
The Mines Geosciences Bureau personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources have no take on the matter.
