AN 18-year-old senior high school student of one of the private schools in Cagayan de Oro City died after the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a tanker truck parked along the highway of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

The incident took place at 3:45 am yesterday along Sayre Highway, Barangay San Miguel of the said municipality.

Police Maj. Carlito Chua, Jr., Manolo Fortich Municipal Police Station head, identified the victim as Edward James Sinamban, single, a resident of Zone 5, San Miguel, Manolo Fortich of the said province.

Sinamban was a Grade 11 senior high school student at Cagayan de Oro College-Phinma Education.

According to a police report, the incident happened when the driven motorcycle of the victim with plate no.1001-273574 crashed into another vehicle, a Mitsubishi Super Great Tanker truck with plate number JAG-6404 parked along the said highway.

The truck is registered to certain couple Deogenes and Fridalyn Soria of Lantapan, Bukidnon and it was driven by Danng Boybanting of Kulasihan, Lantapan, Bukidnon.

Due to the impact, the victim suffered major injuries in the different parts of his body that resulted in his death.

Further investigation conducted at the scene of the incident revealed, that Sinamban was traveling from Tankulan going to Barangay Alae in Manolo Fortich.

Upon reaching the said place he hit the rear left side portion of the truck, which at that time was parked at the shoulder of the road, and partially obstructed the slow lane.

It was also revealed that the parked truck had no warning devices installed and the driver failed to turn on the hazard lights.

The victim was rushed to Bukidnon Provincial Hospital Annex, in Manolo Fortich only to be pronounced dead by the attending physician Dr. Charlotte Perez.

Boybanting is now under the custody of Manolo police pending investigation. The vehicle he was driving was also impounded.

In connection with the said incident, Police Provincial Director Jun Mark Lagare ordered Manolo Fortich police to strictly implement traffic laws and conduct random checkpoints for the safety of the motorists.

He also stated that the public should practice a responsible attitude take extra precautions while driving and cooperate with the authorities in terms of road safety rules and policies.
