A routine stop at a traffic light early Friday morning, Nov. 7, near C.M. Recto in Gusa, took a decidedly un-routine turn when a motorist and a traffic enforcer ended up in a scuffle involving a padlock.
The incident has landed the motorist, 43-year-old Phillip Anthony Carson, in temporary detention at the Agora Police Station (PS3).
According to the police blotter, Road and Traffic Administration enforcer Narciso Vidal filed a complaint after Carson, allegedly intoxicated at the time, struck Vidal with a padlock, causing him pain.
The bizarre sequence of events reportedly began when Carson drove to the end of the road and started attempting to direct traffic using hand signals.
Vidal then approached Carson, asking him to move. This request apparently caused Carson to retrieve the padlock and strike Vidal, sparking the full-blown commotion.
Vidal was treated for a nosebleed and suffered pain in his wrist.
Meanwhile, a video of the incident, uploaded by Gabgab Paje Facebook page, has gone wildly viral. It has garnered more than 300,000 views and over 2,000 shares, ensuring that the traffic spat is now firmly cemented in local internet infamy.
It seems that when traffic gets sticky, sometimes people really lock horns.
