THE Roads and Traffic Administration has put up barricades along Masterson Avenue in uptown Cagayan de Oro as a means of controlling the flow of traffic, particularly of motor vehicles that do a U-turn in that area.
Then No-Left-Turn signs were installed at the intersection of Las Ramblas and Masterson, obviously also to prevent motor vehicles from obstructing an otherwise smooth flow of traffic along Masterson Avenue.
What do these indicate? Does it merely highlight the lack of discipline of some road users? For one, avoiding to U-turn in a busy thoroughfare, especially during peak hours does not require rocket science to understand. All it needs is consciousness of the effects of that action on other road users.
But what the heck! Some motorists seem to think only of themselves. "Bahala na mo diha basta segurado naka U-turn na ko," seems to be what is in their mind.
I am aware of complaints and expressions of appreciation aired by road users against and in favor of several schemes implemented by the RTA in various parts of the city and I hope those comments are filtered by the RTA to serve as guides in possibly improving the flow of vehicular traffic in the city.
For us, motorists, pedestrians, and commuters, it may be best for us to do our respective parts by simply being law-abiding citizens and be proud to be part of the solution to the traffic problem of the city.
