SOME residents of Medina are urging the local government to launch an investigation into an allegedly substandard, damaged flood control system.
The push for action follows recent revelations about questionable flood control projects across the country.
A portion of the flood control system, located along a river in Purok 7, Sitio Minabaca, in Barangay South Poblacion, collapsed three years ago during a flash flood.
Residents say about 100 meters of the structure were damaged. The incident recently gained renewed attention on social media amid a Senate report by Sen. Panfilo Lacson, which highlighted P500 billion worth of allegedly questionable flood control projects nationwide.
Residents are calling for the local government to file a formal complaint and investigate the project's implementation.
Engr. Vilma Q. Rombo, the municipal engineer, denied claims that the local government ignored the issue.
Rombo said she was personally tasked by former Mayor Donato Chan to inspect the damage and immediately submitted a “calamity report” to the Department of Public Works and Highways District Engineering Office in Gingoog City.
R.I.C. Construction Company from Tangub City has since begun repairs on the collapsed structure.
However, some residents remain dissatisfied and want a full investigation to ensure the project was properly implemented.
