ILIGAN City ― “Oh, Senior Citizen, please pray for me. Save me from the fires of hell…”
“He now has dual citizenship.”
The foregoing are some of the jokes associated with being a senior citizen. One who has reached the age of 60 or more. So, he becomes like the saints now that are being “prayed” upon. Like Senior San Miguel. Or Senior San Agustin, patron saints of two cities.
And we know what the other “citizenship” is, ha ha ha, We know too that they’re not being as able as before. So one time, Felix, a friend of mine said that once he remembered visiting three seniors as a matter of empathy for them as they might be needing somebody at this time, First he went to Nang Nimfa, a distant relative. He almost bumped at her at the doors. “Nang Nimfa” was in a hurry for a meeting, of which she was the president, could Felix just come another time, whatever his purpose was. So…
He went visiting another senior, Joe, a “kumpadre” of a close relative who had recently passed on. Like Nang Nimfa, Joe too was in a hurry for a date.
A date in his senior years! Ah, well...
He hurried on to another senior ― Nong Fabian. He was told at the door that he was out, doing some, whatchamacallit ― the “tig” left behind couldn’t even recall what the “amo” was playing!
Whatever happened to these seniors?
Aren’t they in the “departure area” now? Well, that’s what we call “stereotyping,” for that’s much truth to the majority.
So Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz had this idea about seniors, As a matter of “empathy”' for them, in their twilight years. Six thousand more seniors will receive pensions instead of only two thousand he said and these additional seniors will be funded this time by the LGU, he said.
But why “just now,” an unbelieving people ask. This is not “just now,” the VM said, as the move has been made several years ago yet, but you know how government processes matter like these, he clarified.
“But priority are those ‘poorest of the poor.’ They will be receiving P3,000 every six months. And there will be an ordinance for this, he said. So that this will be a ‘continuous process.’”
That’s good, I suppose. But why the IDs of these seniors should have a “red” background in the pictures of their senior identifications? The color of this administration to note is red.
The good VM however, must explain this. Not only in the city’s “own” radio station or in FB but to other venues as well.
Otherwise, this will all be considered, again, as “politicking.” Or pa ― “epal.”
As in “in aid of election.” Because the guy is running for mayor.
