ILIGAN City ― Melvin Anggot, the manager of Brigada News FM, announced his candidacy for city councilor in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.
Anggot’s decision came after encouragement from several individuals and a shift in the station’s policy, which previously required his resignation to run for office.
Anggot will join the slate of City Mayor Frederick W. Siao, which includes retired RTC Judge Oscar Badelles running for congressman.
The lineup also features a mix of incumbent city councilors and new candidates such as King Belmonte, sibling of outgoing councilor Rosevi ‘Queenie’ Belmonte.
In previous instances, other radio station managers have also ventured into politics. Ramil Emborong, former manager of RMN, successfully ran for councilor under Siao’s ticket. Jun Lino Bacus of Bandera radio station ran for city councilor with Congressman Celso G. Regencia’s team but was unsuccessful.
Brigada News FM, previously at risk of closure due to franchise issues, secured its operation through a partnership with Palawan Broadcasting.
