THE Philippine Press Institute (PPI), the national association of newspapers since 1964, will now allow news websites to apply for membership.
During its 2025 General Assembly at the Eastwood Richmonde Hotel, PPI members unanimously approved an amendment to the membership provision of its by-laws, changing categories from “Regular and Associate” to “Print and Online.”
“A bold move on the part of the PPI to be not just relevant but more inclusive,” the PPI Board stated, which presented the redefinition of membership to the body.
PPI Chairman and President Rolando Estabillo added that the media landscape has changed drastically and that the Institute “cannot afford to be parochial and passive.”
In his privilege speech during this year’s assembly, re-elected Visayas trustee and corporate secretary, attorney Ruevivar Reyes, emphasized the need to recalibrate the organization's workings.
“We’ve done a lot of introspection already. The PPI News Commons as such, is a bold move, a result of our collective aspiration and commitment.”
The PPI will submit the amendment to its Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws to the Securities and Exchange Commission in the coming days. (PR)
