The scene unfolded inside the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology gymnasium, where preparations were underway for the arrival of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., scheduled to distribute aid to local fisherfolk and farmers.
The sight of the two political figures sharing a moment of unity brought joy to residents, both within the gymnasium and throughout the city. Despite being at odds with each other, with their respective supporters engaging in heated exchanges, the gesture of solidarity offered a brief respite from political tensions.
Earlier, Police Major Zandrex Panolong, spokesperson for the PNP in Iligan City, advised prospective attendees to refrain from wearing political colors such as red and blue, associated with Regencia and Siao respectively. Attendees were encouraged to opt for shirts with collars, emphasizing a neutral attire for the event.
As of the latest update, President Marcos Jr. and his accompanying cabinet members, including representatives from DSWD, Agriculture, and DILG, had not yet arrived. Details regarding their landing area remained undisclosed for security purposes.
