POLICE are preparing charges of serious illegal detention against some 130 New People’s Army rebels who allegedly held an engineer and nine workers of the Equi-Parco Construction Co. in Barangay Eureka, Gingo-og City, on Friday. Supt. Roel Lamiing, Gingoog police chief, said the police would press charges against the rebels before the Gingoog city prosecutor’s office today based on the complaint of the workers led by Equi-Parco project engineer Joseph Bete. But Lamiing has not identified any of his suspects except to say that they were led by one “Kumander Dahon” of the NPA’s Guerrilla Front B Committee. Lamiing said the workers were held by the NPA group while they were headed to their project site in Sitio Mambalite, Eureka, at around 1 pm Friday. The workers were riding a pick-up truck, a dump truck and a boom truck at that time. He said the rebels commandeered the vehicles and brought the workers to Sitio Talangisog where they were held for over five hours. Police said the rebels lectured the workers and told them not to believe the local government’s promise of a certificate of ancestral domain title before releasing them. Lamiing said the rebels subsequently took the vehicles but abandoned these in the same barangay as they fled towards Utao River in  Agusan del Norte. (nitz arancon)
