DESPITE losing the women’s volleyball to Barangay Salubsob, Barangay Poblacion bagged the overall supremacy in the Paglaum Cup Sportsfest 2024, winning the basketball and volleyball men’s titles recently in Kinoguitan, Misamis Oriental.

Fully aware of Barangay Salubsob’s stunning semis win over the tough Barangay Esperanza in overtime play, the stacked Barangay Poblacion showed no complacency in besting the former to capture the men’s basketball crown.

Esperanza settled for third place after a lopsided win over Barangay Beray.

In the men’s volleyball championship, Barangay Poblacion fought hard up to the deciding third set to defeat the tough Barangay Bolisong.

The Poblacion cagers were expecting the talented Esperanza hoopsters in the final, but they later got ambushed by Barangay Salubsob in the semifinals.

Tagged as a title-favorite, Esperanza bungled its winning chance from the free throw line, allowing Salubsob to run away with a stunning 61-55 overtime win during their semis tiff held at the covered courts of Barangay Calubo, some weeks ago.

This, as Barangay Poblacion crushed Barangay Beray, 61-39 in the other half of the crossover matches en route to a championship finish in the Governor Peter Unabia-backed Inter-Barangay Sports Festival 2024.

Sayang ang chance sa Esperanza. Sila ang gi-expect nga mo-abante sa final, pero sipyat ilang free throws at the outset of the regulation period maong na overtime pa,” referee Felbert Maghanoy told Gold Star Daily.
