THE Phividec-Industrial Authority signed a memorandum of agreement last Thursday, Aug. 14, with the Social Security System to provide SSS protection to its job order and contract workers. The employees’ SSS contributions will now be deducted from their salaries.
Lawyer Joseph Donato Bernedo, Phividec administrator, said the authority has more than 144 job order and contract-of-service workers.
“By signing this [agreement] with SSS, we are extending the mantle of protection to a group of workers who worked for too long but has been left out of coverage,” Bernedo said.
Bernedo announced that Phividec would add 20% to the workers’ salaries to compensate for the deduction so the employees would not be burdened.
Benigno Dagani Jr., SSS acting vice president for the Mindanao Division, commended Phividec, saying not all government agencies have implemented a 20% increase to compensate for the SSS deduction.
“It’s really a big help so that our CoS and job orders will not be burden,” Dagani said.
Dagani said it was his first time hearing of a government agency, through its board, coming up with a resolution for a 20% increase. He said all Phividec’s job order and contract workers were lucky.
The Phividec job order and contract workers can now avail of SSS benefits.
The agreement is part of the SSS Kaltass Collect Program, which gives job order and contract workers access to health and retirement benefits, among others.
