THE Phividec Industrial Authority, a government-owned corporation, is preparing for a major expansion into the Visayas region.

Phividec Administrator Joseph Donato Bernedo revealed the plan Monday, Nov. 10, during the launch of the Phividec Business Digest, a new publication detailing the agency's development and the broader economic landscape of Mindanao.

The expansion, which includes new sites in Bohol, Cadiz, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Cebu, signifies that Phividec is no longer a localized entity, according to Bernedo.

“It is becoming a brand, a movement, and a national force of industrialization,” the administrator said.

In an interview with reporters, Bernedo confirmed that the local governments in the mentioned areas have already sent letters of intent to establish Phividec sites.

“I think they noticed the good performance of Phividec here in Misamis Oriental, they like the current administration, so they reached out to us,” he added.

Bernedo said the expansion will provide an opportunity for industries to thrive beyond Misamis Oriental, particularly in the Visayas.

He added that the agency is currently preparing the necessary paperwork and feasibility studies.

These documents will be submitted to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who will make the final decision regarding the establishment of the new sites.

Before bringing industries to a new location, Phividec considers several factors crucial for industrial success, including an area ideal for a port, and reliable sources of power and water supply.
