THE regional political party in Northern Mindanao, PaDayon Pilipino, has expressed its condolences on the death of former Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Caesar Ian Enerio Acenas, who was 49.
During his time as vice mayor, Acenas was installed as mayor by the Department of the Interior and Local Government on November 12, 2019.
However, he stepped down a few days later after the Court of Appeals issued an order allowing Mayor Oscar Moreno to remain in office.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Yevgeny Vincente Emano posted on Facebook, “Ang tibook pamilya sa Padayon Pilipino nagsubo sa pagpanaw ni kanhi Bise Mayor Ian Acenas.”
PaDayon Pilipino also expressed heartfelt condolences to the family. Acenas died on August 21.
His wife, Maryvel Acenas, posted on Facebook: “In loving memory of a life that touched so many, a leader, a devoted father, a loving husband, a true friend, and a servant of God. His legacy of love, strength, and compassion lives on in the hearts of those he cherished most. Though his earthly journey has ended, the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave will remain forever with us.”
His wake is scheduled for August 22-27 at Divine Shepherd Memorial Garden in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City, with the burial ceremony on August 28.
Former city Councilor Suzette Magtajas-Daba said in a text message that she was deeply saddened by the passing of a good friend, former Vice Mayor Ian Acenas, and expressed her deepest sympathies to the entire family.
Before serving as vice mayor for two terms from 2010 to 2016, Acenas served in the youth sector as the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President and ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod in 1996 and earlier.
He then served as a regular city councilor from 1996 to 2010.
Acenas served his first term as vice mayor in 2010 under the late Mayor Vicente ‘Dongkoy’ Emano.
His second term was in 2016 under former Mayor Oscar Moreno.
