THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the First and Second Districts of Cagayan de Oro officially opened voter registration today for the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (BSKE) elections.

The 10-day registration period runs from 8 am to 5 pm every day, including weekends, and will end on Aug. 10.

Registration for the First District is being held at SM Uptown Premiere, while voters in the Second District can register at Robinsons in Limketkai.

In an interview with IFM-RMN Radio, Atty. Dexter Nagtalon, Comelec officer for the First District, noted the tight schedule. "We are only given 10 days for the said Barangay and SK Election," he said.

Nagtalon also clarified that the office will not accept transferred voters, as the registration is specifically for the BSKE. "No transfer from within municipalities or cities," he said. Given this rule, he expressed confidence that his office can cater to all residents who wish to register in the First District.

The Comelec officer advised everyone to register early and not wait for the deadline on Aug. 10.

The start of the registration comes as a bill to postpone the BSKE from December 2025 to November 2026 awaits President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s signature. The Comelec has stated it will continue with preparations until a law is signed.
