THE local government of Cagayan de Oro has suspended work starting at 3 pm today, Nov. 3, and continuing through Tuesday, Nov. 4, after the city was placed under Signal No. 1 due to Tropical Storm Tino (international name Kalmaegi).
City Mayor Rolando Uy announced the suspension via Executive Order No. 0421-2025A, which prescribes guidelines for work cancellation in city government offices, consistent with Presidential Order No. 66.
However, the order emphasizes that agencies providing basic and health services shall maintain operations. Specifically exempted from the suspension are government offices whose functions involve the delivery of vital services, disaster preparation, and response.
These essential teams include the City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWD), City Health Office (CHO), City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD), JR Borja General Hospital, City Engineers Office, Office for Community Affairs, and the Road and Traffic Administration (RTA).
Work cancellation in the private sector is left to the discretion of individual employers.
As of press time, personnel from the CDRRMD, RTA, and the City Engineering's Office have been deployed to their areas of responsibility as a precautionary measure against the heavy rains brought by Tino.
Earlier today, Mayor Uy had also ordered the suspension of all voyages of water vessels from Cagayan de Oro to areas affected by the tropical cyclone warning signal.
The City Mayor’s office urged the public to remain alert and to avoid panic, and to closely follow announcements from the CDRRMD.
