THE Cagayan de Oro City Hall Regulatory Compliance Board (RCB) has reminded local businesses to strictly observe the nationwide liquor ban from May 11 to 12, in line with a Commission on Elections (Comelec) resolution for the upcoming 2025 elections.
The liquor ban, mandated by Comelec Resolution No. 11057, prohibits the sale, offering and consumption of alcoholic beverages during the period to maintain peace and order.
Police and local authorities will enforce the ban across Northern Mindanao, with inspections planned to ensure compliance.
Under the resolution, establishments such as hotels, bars, restaurants and resorts — along with their owners and managers — are prohibited from selling, serving or allowing the consumption of alcohol.
Violators may face fines ranging from P1,000 to P6,000 or imprisonment of up to six years. Additional penalties include temporary closure, disqualification from holding public office and loss of voting rights.
Camp Alagar Regional Director Brig. Gen. Jaysen C. De Guzman emphasized the importance of the ban in safeguarding the electoral process.
“The liquor ban serves as a precautionary measure to prevent alcohol-related incidents that could threaten the safety and integrity of the elections. We urge the public to cooperate,” De Guzman said.
Exemptions apply only to Department of Tourism-accredited hotels, resorts and restaurants serving foreign tourists, provided they have secured prior written approval from Comelec.
Business owners are encouraged to inform staff and customers in advance and coordinate with local authorities to ensure compliance.
