AS Zamboanga sensation Jonas Sultan seeks ring glory in a New York ring on October 30, Filipino compatriot Jeronil ‘Chocolatito’ Borres from Cagayan de Oro City tries his luck on the same Saturday in Maryland, USA.
The 24-year-old Borres will face the unbeaten Price, 23, in a 10-round bantamweight bout specifically in Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland with the hope of raising his 10-5-1 win-loss-draw record in professional boxing.
Like the 29-year-old Zamboangeño Sultan, whose Puerto Rican opponent Carlos Caraballo had kayoed all his previous 14 rivals, Borres’ American counterpart had also put to sleep his 14 ring adversaries.
“Dylan Price is one of the most skilled fighters in America,” opined US boxing fan Kuro Amir through social media interaction.
According to former Olympian Roberto ‘Bobby’ Jalnaiz, who’s now US-based, the Misamis Oriental native Borres had trained under him as a kid when he was still supervising the Misamis Oriental’s amateur boxing program when Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno was still the province’s governor.
“Former protegee ni siya ni Moreno adtong anaa pa kami sa probinsiya. Iyang (Borres) batch silang Paalam (Carlo),” said Jalnaiz, referring to the Kagay-anon pride amateur boxing silver medalist in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Jalnaiz said the non-title Price-Borres slugfest is also on the radar of the Filipino boxing community in the US who ardently supports boxing sport.
Borres is one inch shorter than the 5-foot-5 Price, though Jalnaiz guarantees that the Oro hopeful’s experience in amateur fights and warrior Filipino blood will ensure a tough challenge for the American crowd-darling Price.
“It’s an exciting fight that we’re thrilled to look forward to on Saturday night,” Jalnaiz told Gold Star Daily.
