AT least four sporting events will take center-stage in the week-long celebration of the Cagayan de Oro Press Freedom Week on May 26-31.
Basketball, which is expected to draw the largest number of participants from the different media outlets in the locality, is set to be held at Barangay 24 covered court
While chess, billiard and bowling, according to Cagayan de Oro Press Club Board Director Amor Barlisan, will be slated at SM CDO Downtown Premier.

Teams from various local radio stations such as dxCC, Magnum Radio, and Bombo Radio are expected to vie strongly in the basketball competition, even as Gold Star Daily, Mindanao Daily, apart from consistently dominating chess, will be among the favorite print media outfits to put up a stiff challenge on the billiard tables.
Already, COPC president Froilan Gallardo has pledged for the club to give cash prizes and trophies for all the winning teams.
“Gagmay japon ang prizes pero best efforts sa mga COPC directors kana aron mabibo ta sa press freedom week,” Gallardo said.
