CAGAYAN de Oro City Councilor and Minority Floor Leader Agapito Suan said yesterday, September 15, that no company has submitted a bid for the city’s garbage collection contract since the previous service provider, Tencil, expired its contract.
Suan revealed that Evergreen, which was previously reported to have won the bidding, backed out because it could not provide the necessary requirements.
Since then, no other company has submitted a letter of intent to bid.
“Ang nahitabo gyud karon, as of the moment, wala pa gyud nag bid nga mupuli sa muhakot ug basura,” Suan said, emphasizing that for now, no bidder has come forward to replace the previous trash collector.

According to Suan, the bidding process is difficult because of the many requirements, including a specific number of trucks.
He suggested the bidding should have opened earlier to give interested companies time to prepare.
“Dili pud ta gusto nga magpataka nalang ta ug kuha unya wala man diay nila ma meet ang required nga mga items para muhakot sa basura — mao nang problema karon,” Suan said, explaining that the city does not want to just choose a company that cannot meet the required items for garbage collection, which is the current problem.
As a contingency plan, barangays and the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office will handle garbage collection.
