Citing effective crime prevention and consistent visibility on the streets, the city government has recognized Barangay Lapasan as having one of the most effective peacekeeping bodies in Cagayan de Oro.
The barangay was named a “Highly Functional Barangay Peace and Order Committee (BPOC)” during the 4th Quarter Full Council Meeting of the City Peace, Development and Security Council (CPDSC) on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the City Tourism Hall.
Lapasan was one of 21 barangays honored this year for successfully implementing programs on anti-illegal drugs, community mobilization, and close coordination with police forces.
Barangay Chairman Julito D. Ogsimer credited the award to the village’s proactive strategy. He highlighted their focus on strengthening patrol visibility, sustaining coordination with the police, and expanding community-based safety initiatives.
According to barangay officials, the recognition serves as a testament to the united commitment of barangay workers, volunteers, law enforcement partners, and the residents of Lapasan.
City Councilor Roger Abaday, chair of the committee on public order and safety, led the awarding ceremony.
He commended the barangay for its role in building safer communities and supporting the city’s long-term development goals.
The award is part of Cagayan de Oro’s broader push to enhance community-level security mechanisms, ensuring every barangay builds stronger systems for safety, disaster readiness, and public accountability.
