CAGAYAN de Oro City is taking steps to ease traffic congestion, a common problem in the lively city.
According to the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), led by Department Manager Engr. Nonito A. Oclarit, on Wednesday launched a clearing operation to address the traffic jam.
They cleared roads and sidewalks of obstacles like illegally parked vehicles and street vendors, giving vehicles more space to move freely.
“We need everyone to work together. Parking in designated areas and following traffic rules are crucial,” Oclarit said pointing out the need for public cooperation.
He also stressed the importance of vendors adhering to designated areas and times.
Meanwhile, in a separate effort to maintain order and ensure public safety, the Night Market Management Committee (NMMC), led by lawyer Jose Edgardo Uy, conducted a visit to the Cogon Market area.
Accompanied by teams from the Cocpo, Ceebda, Clenro, and CPSD, the NMMC reminded vendors of the guidelines set forth by the committee.
This included reiterating the proper display times and other agreed-upon regulations. The visit took place from late afternoon to early evening.
Corpuz echoed Engr. Oclarit’s sentiment, adding that the Traffic Enforcement Division will be stepping up their efforts to crack down on traffic violators.
“We’re not just here to punish people,” he said, “but to ensure the safety and convenience of all road users.”
The clearing operation is just the first step in the RTA’s plan to address the city’s traffic woes.
Engr. Oclarit said the RTA is currently working on a comprehensive traffic management plan that will include measures like traffic light synchronization and the implementation of a public transportation system.
While the journey towards a traffic-free Cagayan de Oro may be long, the RTA’s efforts are a clear sign that they’re committed to making a difference.
With the community’s support and RTA’s proactive approach, the city can finally say goodbye to traffic jams and hello to a smoother, more efficient commute.
Oclarit expressed hope that these initiatives will lead to a smoother commute for everyone in the city.
