THE city government of Cagayan de Oro celebrated National Women’s Month on March 7 with various activities focused on women’s empowerment.

The month-long celebration started with a holy mass attended by City Gender and Development Co-chairperson Sheila Lumbatan, Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, and other officials.

In her speech, Vice Mayor Rodriguez highlighted the crucial role of women in families and communities.

“As mothers and women, we empower our society because we are the pillars of our households,” said Rodriguez.

After the mass, a lively motorcade took place, showing support from government offices, barangays, and national agencies.

The celebration also featured a Zumba competition at Gaston Park, where barangay representatives displayed their enthusiasm and energy.

This year’s theme, “Women in All Sectors: A Brighter Future in the New Philippines,” focused on the importance of inclusivity and progress for women in society.

Before the celebration, city officials and the City Social Welfare and Development Office met on March 6 to plan the month’s events.

City Mayor Rolando Uy expressed his support for initiatives that address women's needs and rights.

Uy said that organizers aimed to create an inspiring month that recognized and empowered women throughout Cagayan de Oro.
