IT’S time for the lowly-rated players in the locality to shine in a rapid chess tourney set to be slated tomorrow at the Inilog Grill in Cagayan de Oro City.
Designed for participants with rapid ratings of 1850 and below by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, the day-long tourney offers P2,500 top prize for the champion plus trophy.
The second and third placers, meanwhile, will receive P1,500 and P1,000 each and medals.
The 5th Dev’Tal Chess League of Rising Stars 1850 and Below Challenge will start at 9 am with a time control of 10 minutes and five seconds increment.
“In many past events, kadtong mga titled or high-rated players ra ang gapangdaug. At least, mahatagan nato'g chance ang mga low-rated nga sila na pud ang bida,” said the chess-playing ship master Ronald Banaag of the organizing Brothers of Knights Mindchess and the Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Chess Association.
Arbiter Lorenzo Cuizon told Gold Star Daily that the six-round Swiss System tourney is limited only to 100 entries on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The rest of the top 10 finishers will get cash prizes and medals including the special category prize winners such as the top lady, top senior, and top kiddie performers.
