SEVERAL local chief executives in Misamis Oriental canceled classes today, July 18, due to the potential disturbance from Tropical Depression Crising (international name Wipha).
The municipalities of Lagonglong, Sugbongcogon, Salay, Talisayan, Magsaysay, and Binuangan announced class suspensions on their official Facebook pages.
Lagonglong Mayor Anjo Capistrano stated in a post that his office advised the suspension of classes due to the inclement weather brought by Tropical Depression Crising and the Southwest Monsoon.
Capistrano cited the safety of all students and teaching and non-teaching staff in Lagonglong as the reason for the suspension.
Meanwhile, Talisayan, led by new Municipal Mayor Ceriaco Talines, issued Executive Order No. 01, series of 2025, declaring the suspension of elementary-level classes.
The executive order noted that as of 5:18 am today, July 18, the town was experiencing gusty winds, continuous rainfall, and dark cloud formations, posing significant risk to public safety, especially to students.
Talisayan’s Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Office was also directed to continue monitoring weather conditions.
In Salay, Mayor Jay Vincent Capistrano announced the suspension of all class levels due to the imminent weather, advising everyone to follow local advisories from their Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
According to Pagasa, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, Tropical Depression Crising was moving northwestward toward the mainland of Cagayan and Babuyan Islands as of 8 am today.
