CLASSES are suspended across Misamis Oriental province today, Nov. 3, and tomorrow, Nov. 4, due to the threat of Tropical Storm Tino (interational name: Kalmaegi).
The class suspensions, which cover all levels of both public and private schools, were announced late Sunday by local chief executives.
This unexpected extension of time off comes after students were scheduled to return to school today following a week of wellness breaks and the observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.
Municipalities that issued the suspension order include the city of Gingoog and the towns of Balingoan, Binuangan, Balingasag, Sugbongcogon, Lagonglong, Tagoloan, Kinoguitan, Medina, Talisayan, Magsaysay, and Opol.
The suspensions were issued via executive order after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecast heavy rain and flooding for the area.
Misamis Oriental is among the provinces under a yellow alert status, which signifies potential danger and urges residents to take precautionary measures.
Other areas on the alert include Misamis Occidental, Agusan del Norte, Camiguin, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur. Authorities have specifically advised residents in these areas to stay away from the coast and cancel all marine activities.
The Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental also urged all residents to remain safe and to take necessary precautions against the severe weather.
